Entering the hyper-competitive travel industry
Time, talent, and capital are key business elements that every startup must maximize to succeed. For travel tech startup Travel Prologue Pte Ltd, success in the hypercompetitive Southeast Asia market depended on implementing an IT infrastructure that could support its multi-supplier platform in an efficient and economical way. “We wanted to empower travel partners with a platform that increases their staff productivity while reducing back-end tasks, so they can focus on their customers,” says Ho Siang Twang, Executive Director, Travel Prologue Pte Ltd. “From an IT perspective, there were connectivity factors we had to take into account such as platform integrations, connecting with standalone and account-based systems, and scaling up our servers in a way that’s scalable and cost-effective.”
Taking full advantage of the cloud to maximize business growth
Operating with the same on-premise IT setup as established competitors was risky, due to the cost. So the company evaluated cloud-based solutions that could help it scale up or down seamlessly. Thankfully, Microsoft Certified Partner, Web Synergies, introduced Travel Prologue to the Microsoft BizSpark program, which provides subsidized access to Azure services, software, and support. “We considered AWS and Azure, but we chose Azure because we’re more familiar with Microsoft technologies,” relates Siang Twang. “We also found that Azure has an operational advantage over AWS in China, which is a key travel market.” Prabhu Kumar, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Web Synergies also added that Azure provides open connectivity, security and scalability. “While Travel Prologue is building a functional system today, I think moving forward they should look into the emerging space of cognitive services, analytics and more, as these will help them in building their business.“
“Open partnerships between Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider Rhipe and Independent Software Vendors (ISV’s) such as ourselves have been pivotal in ensuring partners and end-customers receive adequate access to commercial benefits and support ultimately adding value to product pipelines. From proof of concept to go-to-market, this has allowed Web Synergies to focus on what we do best, developing quality solutions while enabling our end customers to focus on their products,“ added Prabhu.
Reducing capital and operating expenses with the cloud
Travel Prologue was able to reduce expenses by eliminating the need to purchase and maintain on-premises servers across the region. “We saved up to 50% on expenses by using the cloud instead of an on-premises setup because we don’t have to worry about the capital and operational expenses from purchasing and maintaining hardware,” says Siang Twang. “With Azure, we can also create new servers, which enables us to scale up or down rapidly.” Maintenance tasks like data backup are 30% more efficient compared to data backup with an on-premises setup. Azure also eliminated the need to send staff on-site to resolve any on-premises server issues that may occur. In addition, Azure is also compliant with many security frameworks. “According to Azure, Microsoft’s environment is compliant for GDPR and PCI security standards, which is important to us because it makes the certification process easier and gives us peace of mind knowing our customers’ data is protected.”
