rhipe's Diversity and Inclusion council recently held a number of ‘Women In Cloud’ events across several locations in APAC to celebrate International Women's Day on Sunday 8 March.
Our events were focused on this year’s theme of #EachforEqual in support of creating a more gender-equal world.
Discussions were held at each event about diversity and creating an equal, inclusive and supportive workplace and the events were a celebration of women’s achievements, including the positive change occurring within the Technology industry.
Women in Cloud Philippines
In the Philippines, an event was held on 6 March at the rhipe office with leading women in the industry, Aileen Gutierrez (Microsoft), Sophia Lucero (Philippine Web Designers Organization) and Kristine Joy Paas and Azel Tan (Women Who Code Philippines) attending. Panellists spoke about career advancement strategies for women in Tech, and how they have created diversity within their organisations. This was then followed by a Q&A session.
Women in Cloud Melbourne
On 6 March a special IWD lunch event was planned for partners, vendors and staff in Melbourne with a diverse panel of leaders in Tech and Sporting industries. However, due to concerns around the coronavirus the difficult decision was made to cancel the event.
Panellists were interviewed prior to the event by CRN so we are fortunate to be able to share opinions and insights on how their respective organisations are promoting diversity and equality, and how they are advocating for change within their respective industries.
While the planned event was unable to go ahead, the rhipe team did celebrate International Women’s Day with a lunch and lots of great discussion about this year’s theme and how the gender profile within IT is positively changing.
Women in Cloud Brisbane
The rhipe team in Brisbane celebrated on 6 March with a morning tea, which included some fantastic themed cupcakes, great discussion around #EachforEqual and a quiz that revealed some interesting statistics about gender equality.
Women in Cloud Sydney
On 11 March, the Sydney team held a Q&A session with rhipe panel members Jennifer Lilley, Alyssa De Leon and Andrew Fairhurst sharing their experiences and thoughts around the discussion topics: ‘’How will you forge a gender equal world?” and “Raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality and celebrating women’s achievements”. This informative session was followed by an IWD themed quiz.
