Multi-Tenant Citrix Cloud is here!
Since the launch of Citrix Cloud 2-years ago I’ve been asked about support for multi-tenancy, so it’s great to be writing this blog to inform you that after extensive hard work by Citrix, it’s now available for CSP partners to use.
Adoption of a multi-tenancy Citrix service means less complexity along with lower operational and infrastructure costs, allowing partners to offer their services more competitively when compared to isolated tenants.
And the timing is also ideal for partners considering using Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD), as using Citrix with WVD provides partners with the unique ability to offer a hybrid solution alongside privately hosted app and desktop workloads. I’ve included a brief overview of the other benefits of using Citrix with WVD later in this blog.
How does it work?
Multi-tenancy is available today for Virtual Apps and Desktops and Managed Desktops, and it allows partners to host a service using a single AD domain, while still providing each customer their own personalised experience via their own Workspace URL and portal customisation.
A significant benefit of this model is the requirement for Citrix Cloud Connectors per tenant is reduced to a single pair of servers, significantly reducing the cost and complexity for partners hosting virtual desktop or virtual application services.
As a CSP Partner, you have a partner Citrix Cloud account that provides you with access to all of your customers, whether they’re part of the multi-tenant service or isolated tenants, giving you a single pane of glass holistic view of everything you need to know at any given time.
What does the conceptual architecture look like?
Much like a traditional Citrix Apps and Desktops service, the Citrix Cloud service allows partners to host different customers on any combination of public, private or hybrid cloud infrastructure. This includes any public cloud virtual machine including WVD, GPU and reserved instances, allowing partners to be more versatile in their offerings which in-turn allows you to potentially target new market vertices and use cases.
For example, you could host standard users on privately hosted desktops with users needing GPU workloads in Azure, AWS or GCP.
Here’s a high-level example of how some partners logically separate customers in their directory. This can of course go much further, with different types of business units, associated users and many other aspects of the service offering separated by OUs.
How does Citrix Cloud multi-tenancy work with WVD?
Using WVD with Citrix is simple, the WVD pool of desktops is treated as a resource location for your service and can be attached to your Citrix Cloud tenant in minutes.
The great benefit of using Citrix with WVD is being able to access features that improve the user experience, but also offer unparalleled security and efficiency. We’ve already been looking at hybrid cloud services in this blog, with workloads on both private and public infrastructure, but that’s the tip of the iceberg.
Citrix Hybrid Cloud and WVD
One scenario I often to speak to partners about is how they can sweat their existing investment while they migrate workloads to public cloud. A huge benefit of Citrix with WVD is being able to use existing infrastructure alongside WVD infrastructure. That includes on-premises and another cloud, so if you’re already hosting virtual desktop workloads on your own infrastructure or AWS, for example, you can aggregate access to those resources and WVD via a single portal.
Intelligent Session Recording is standard, it’s awesome, and it wins deals
Even existing partners are often surprised to hear about the ability to record a users’ session. This includes AI driven (Citrix Analytics) security that can record a users’ session if configured or learned parameters are met. For example, if Citrix Analytics determines a users’ behaviour is abnormal and potentially unsafe, the security profile of the user is raised, and as a result configurable actions can be taken.
Those actions include blocking the user, requesting a one-time-password, alerting an IT admin, the users’ manager or recording the session. The recorded session can be played back as a video, allowing the viewer to see exactly what the user was doing. Likewise, even during the recording, if the behaviour worsens, the users’ session can still be terminated, or other actions executed to help protect data integrity or system security.
For partners with customers in any regulated industry, Citrix Analytics and Session Recording are deal breakers!
Add the industry leading HDX user experience, App protection and the features below to hybrid cloud, Citrix Analytics and Session Recording; using Citrix with WVD is both a logical and commercially wise decision.
10 Benefits of Citrix + WVD
- Hybrid Cloud
- HDX Technology
- Performance and Security Analytics
- Workspace Environment Manager
- Session Recording
- App Protection and Watermarking
- Advanced Monitoring
- Advanced Provisioning
- Application Layering
How much does Multi-Tenancy cost?
There is no price increase for using multi-tenancy Citrix Apps and Desktops or Citrix Managed Desktops. The only change required for partners is the SKU you use when ordering the respective service from rhipe. These new SKUs are added to our price list available to partners via your Prism portal.
